It's been stated that America's pushing health insurance costs onto businesses is bad for America's ability to compete in the international business marketplace. If the government pays for health insurance, as it goes in most other nations, businesses have substantially less overhead.
I would like to point out that, since health insurance is so incredibly expensive for businesses to pay for, that it would be cheaper to employ people if the government picks up the health insurance tab. This would mean that it would be less desirable (or necessary) to layoff people in bad times, and easier to hire people during recoveries and booms.
It might even help bring about better employment numbers in our current recovery that has, so far, not brought people back into the workforce.
